The Smart Aigent module in Spotler Chat+ allows you to build conversational flows using AI-driven logic. Within each node of a Smart Aigent dialog, a bot turn can be configured with advanced options. One of the newest capabilities is the ability to override the default AI prompt with a Custom Prompt.
On this page you have the following options:
- What is the Custom Prompt
- How to enable and edit a Custom Prompt
- When to use a Custom Prompt
- Example use cases
What is the Custom Prompt
The Custom Prompt option allows you to override the default Smart Aigent instructions that are normally generated based on selected parameters like Answer format and Tone of voice. When enabled, a text box appears showing the default prompt, which you can freely edit. This prompt will then be sent to the AI instead of the auto-generated one.
This gives you more granular control over how the AI responds in specific nodes of your chatbot flow. You can tailor the custom prompt to your own communication style or business needs.
How to enable and edit a Custom Prompt
You can find the Custom Prompt option in the Turn Editor of a bot turn within a Smart Aigent node. Here’s how to use it:
- Open a Smart Aigent dialog and select the node you want to edit.
- In the right-hand panel (Turn Editor), scroll down to find the section titled Custom prompt.
- Enable the toggle next to Custom prompt.
- A new text field appears, pre-filled with the default AI instructions. You can now edit this field as needed.
- Click Save to apply your changes.
Below the prompt field, a message indicates that Answer format and Tone of voice settings will be disabled when using a custom prompt, since the prompt and the creativity level will fully control the AI's output.
When to use a Custom Prompt
There are several reasons to use a custom prompt instead of the default generated version:
- You want to control the tone of voice more precisely (e.g. use informal Dutch with “jij” instead of “u”).
- You need the AI to follow strict business rules or language guidelines.
- You want to experiment with different prompt techniques for better response quality.
- You need a fallback or override behavior in specific situations.
Example use cases
Instead of relying on generic tone settings, you can write a prompt such as: "Respond in a casual tone, using Dutch 'jij'-form and avoiding formal phrases."
A custom prompt might say: "Summarize the information in 3-5 bullet points. Only include facts mentioned in the sources."
Write prompts that explicitly instruct the AI not to answer outside of the given content: "Only reply to questions if the answer is included in the context. Never add opinions or additional information."
Notes
- The prompt can be up to 8000 characters long.
- Variables and dynamic placeholders are not supported in the prompt field.
- The language used in the prompt should match the chatbot’s active language.
- Spotler cannot be held responsible for the output of custom prompts.
